(Some) Antiracist Teaching Resources

June 10, 2020 (and continuously being updated)
Dear colleagues,

With the world mourning the loss of George Floyd (#sayhisname) after video of his brutal lynching going viral and playing on what feels like a constant loop, it is clear we must do more to work towards a praxis of antiracist teaching and learning. We are proud and privileged to serve a diverse group of students and families, and fully acknowledge that we as a teaching staff are statistically much Whiter than those we serve. We cannot fully serve them until we start to work against White supremacy that marginalizes Black, Indigenous, and otherwise Students of Color. Dwayne Reed may have said it best:

White supremacy won’t die until White people see it as a White issue they need to solve rather than a Black issue they need to empathize with.

— Dwayne Reed (@TeachMrReed) June 4, 2020
By holistically serving our students in this way, we are in turn providing a self-service as well. Our students play a large role in our "working conditions," and when students feel loved, supported, and when their educators act as accomplices towards racial justice, they may feel some improvements in their lives. This can play a huge role in what our learning environments feel like, how we manage our classrooms, and so on.

Here is an incomplete list of resources to help you get started, or continue your antiracist praxis of teaching and learning. Please, please, please feel free to send me things to add to this list! And of course, if you find something in this list to be problematic, please share your concerns as well.

In solidarity,
Nick Quigley
